You wanna feel relaxed, don’t you?
Like you’re back in the driver's seat of your life (whatever that means)? Like you can make decisions without putting everyone else’s needs and wants before your own?
And even more importantly — you’re realizing that you wanna do this in a way that doesn’t involve another trip to the doctors, another bottle of wine, or another late-night cry session… Am I close?
What if I told you there was a way for you to achieve true relaxation? And, doing so with nothing but your sense of smell?
Yup, I’m talking about essential oils.
It seems like nowadays people are either obsessed with essential oils or they want nothing to do with them.
On one hand, there’s a portion of the population that is using the power of plants to heal both themselves and their loved ones. And on the other hand, there are people who don’t know about this plant power or haven’t had the best experience with it in the past — don’t believe in it.
Is it because they are unfamiliar with natural modalities of healing, and it feels a little too “woo-woo”? Or is it because they tried it one time and had no effect whatsoever?
Either way, in this article we’re going to learn what essential oils are and how they can benefit you. Then I’ll show you a suuper easy way to get involved with using them – even if you're a complete beginner.
What are essential oils and how do they work?
In short, essential oils are the concentrated oils that come from the root, leaf, flower, or stem of a plant.2
Remember when you were a kid and you’d peel an orange, and as soon as you broke the peel there was an overwhelming smell of citrus? (Excuse me, I just started salivating…)
What you were smelling was the essence of the orange. It’s what plants and flowers use as survival techniques in their native environments — so not only do they smell absolutely delicious, they have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties in them.

There’s one thing for sure in the essential oil world — not all oils are harvested and created equally. It’s important that you do your research prior to investing in a particular brand. I know of a company out there that does something no one else in the essential oil industry is doing.
It’s not DoTerra, but rather a small business out in Oakland, CA.
Yup, there's a company that hysterically bridges the gap between healing and humor, and it’s helping people all over the world relieve their stress, focus better in school, and yes, even enhance their love life (oh la la).
Introducing… Frankie & Myrrh — aromatherapy made fun!
Frankie & Myrrh started out when owner Kim was working as a “stress-beyond-belief” social worker. As she described, she was tired of looking for alternatives to readily-available coping methods like zoloft or whiskey, and gave aromatherapy a try based on a friend’s recommendation.
Now, I know Kim isn’t the only person out there who has had some skepticism when it comes to essential oils. That’s where the funny and cleverly named products came from — no one around her was showing an interest because they didn’t understand the point of what essential oils were supposed to do.
Seriously, even when you go on their website you can feel the fun and flare that’s meant to make you giggle. Here’s their opt-in when you first head to the homepage:
...I may be biased because I‘m a huge Schiddt’s Creek fan…. but I like-y.
Then on the homepage is a sliding gallery of their most popular products — including this immunity-boosting blend, “Stayin’ Alive”:
(Disclaimer: not everything swears.)
Are you starting to wonder more about what type of essential oils could be enhancing your life right now?
These essential oil products aren’t only powerfully effective, they’re powerfully funny
Hippie Go Lucky
What’s in it: patchouli and grapefruit
For those of you unfamiliar with essential oils — patchouli is a powerhouse of an oil — the smallest drop can overwhelm those under-experienced noses.
That’s why they combined it with the scent of grapefruit, wanting this aphrodisiac-like oil to be accessible to anyone that needs it.
Not to mention, it’s also deodorizing so you can take it with you anywhere you go — spraying yourself or the room you’re in.
As Frankie & Myrrh say on their website, “So, what makes hippies so happy? Free love? Marijuana? Or this?”
Spray the Bitch Away
What’s in it: lavender, bergamot, clary sage, rose geranium, and frankincense
Okay, this one had me laughing as soon as I read the name of it (and without even knowing what was in it, adding it to my cart).
One of their bestsellers, Spray the Bitch Away was created with the intent to reign in your inner bitch and allow for the more relaxed version of yourself to come forward.
Meaning: the oils in this blend are specifically chosen because they relieve stress, anxiety, and promote a deeper sense of relaxation in your body.
For those of you women out there currently experiencing hot flashes, PMS, or anything else contributing to your bitch-factor, you’ll also love the calming effects of lavender, bergamot, and frankincense.
Study Buddy
What’s in it: peppermint, lemon, and rosemary
Aside from its delicious scent, this blend is actually providing your brain with the best opportunities for you to focus your attention.
Peppermint has been known to assist in healing the cognitive effects of head injuries. It’s also been shown to improve cognitive function when inhaled before an exam.3
Rosemary is used globally for memory retention. And the lemon helps with nausea and increases the flow of blood to the brain.
With this trio, you won’t be needing that afternoon energy drink or latte — instead, just spray into your palms, rub them together and then simply inhale.
This combination of smells is designed to keep you alert and focused without any harmful side effects.
And even better — if you don’t have anything to study for, this blend works wonders on a hangover or common cold.
If you had the chance to feel fully focused, with no crash or side-effects, why wouldn’t you jump on it?
Now You Cedar, Now You Don’t
What’s in it: cedarwood (Virginian, Himalayan, and Atlas), lemon, rose, jojoba, vitamin E
For those of you nature lovers out there, this blend might have you mistaking the smell for an actual cedar.
A favorite for meditation, this warm scent will dissipate your stress and help you feel grounded and relaxed.
The point I’m trying to make…
It doesn’t matter if you’ve been using oils for decades or you tried it for the first time yesterday.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a tattoo-covered motorcyclist or a little kid who’s nervous about school.
Essential oils have the ability to help your body restore back to balance in a number of ways.
I’d love to know…
